Sprout Brook Dam Removal Phase I: Stream Restoration, Design and Permitting 2020 Hudson River Estuary Program Round 31 Grants for Tributary Restoration and Resiliency DEC
Contract # DEC01-CO1267GG-3350000

Project summary:

The Sprout Brook dam is the first dam upstream from the Hudson River. There is no other barrier to fish migration between the Hudson and the dam. Phase I of this project was to do the engineering design and plan for the removal of this dam and to obtain all necessary Federal, State and Local permits.

Army Corps and NYSDEC permits were obtained in 2023 and this Phase I project was completed. The dam is ready to be removed.

A Phase Il proposal to the NYS DEC is pending. If awarded, the Dam will hopefully be completely removed and the stream restored to a natural state in the summer of 2024.
